Information on Graffiti Tagging – May 2022

Posted on May 15, 2022

This page sums up what you can do to assist manage graffiti around where you live as well as where you shop locally.

The key is to get on top of new tags quickly as this appears to calm the issue.

Yarra Council’s 2020 framework includes two no-charge tagging removal services by a contractor per residential address each year. Removal kits and paint vouchers are also available (as back up options) for residents to use themselves. See page https://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/services/cleaning-and-maintenance/removing-graffiti and click READ MORE ABOUT GRAFFITI MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK for the information and reporting link.

Residents can also request that graffiti be removed from neighbouring buildings and areas of our local shopping strips to ensure that their precinct/street remains clean. If this is not your own property, owner approvals are sought and generally these will be on record. Additionally, Council’s tagging removal service is open to properties that have heritage sensitive surfaces. The contractor can provide advice and will clean these surfaces.

For the fastest response phone Yarra City Council on 9205 5555 to lodge a removal request and ask for a tracking number. You can also send an email to info@yarracity.vic.gov.au with the photograph of the tagging as a backup.

Building owners and Owners Corporations can also have surfaces coated with anti- graffiti products. This makes it much easier to remove tagging fast yourself with products such as Selleys Muck-Off. Greening walls affected by graffiti tagging can also solve this issue where allowed.

What underpins all of this is that the community needs to be vigilant and report/act as quickly as possible.
